Daniel T. Geiger"GO HOME FINAL EDITION“

exhibition
The exhibition "Go home final edition“ at Block House is Daniel T. Geiger’s second solo show in Japan after his first exhibition titled „Go home and stay home“ at Laughpark, Koganecho, Yokohama in 2020. The work of the German artist currently residing in Japan can mostly be seen in urban spaces from Stuttgart to Berlin, Tel Aviv to Miami and now Tokyo. Cities as places echoing human activtiy attract the artist‘s desire for transformation and contextualisation.
The current exhibition focuses on the contemporary issues and aesthetics of consumerism in our daily lives.
In the first level of the exhibition, Geiger has installed works made of his private collection of personal remnants incurred as a member of a capitalist lifestyle: “レシート192021“ displays the artist‘s personal shopping history while the piece "Driven by...“ is a colorful collage of unfolded cardboard packages, which often drive us unconsciously when we go shopping. ”Shop till you drop“ is an installation that consists of 28 shopping bags showing different aspects of advertising and marketing as well as addressing recycling or green-washing. Commenting with a pinch of irony, as seen in the homage to Jenny Holzer’s work „Money creates Taste“ which Geiger changed to „Money creates Waste“, his work provokes a thought and interaction. These works are juxtaposed against a central piece, where a suspension of plastics collected at a beach pour into the ground next to glass bottles onto which he painted faces reminiscent of Kokeshi figurines. A secondary installation of only plastic bottles grows in an opposite corner, with passing time as an evidence of constant consumption.
The general impression of this exhibition appears to be a humble protest towards the yet unsustainable lifestyle enforced inside the city. The slogan “THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE!?“ sprayed on the wall is the essence of this exhibition.
So we move on to the second level of the exhibition, where after climbing a difficult staircase we encounter the teahouse on the rooftop that is a permanent installation of the gallery. Inside this traditional and calm environment, Geiger's abstract paintings on small canvases and double exposure photography welcome us to sit down, and spend some time in contemplation.
In this spirit, an exclusive ZINE RELEASE of „aBIENcdefGEIGER“ will show these photographs and drawings combined to a unique visual language. The release of the exclusive collaborative work between BIEN (Tokyo), ABCDEF (Düsseldorf) and GEIGER (Tokyo & Stuttgart)

"Go Home Final Edition"
Driven by...
壁にスプレーされた「THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE!」

BIEN(東京)、ABCDEF(デュッセルドルフ)、GEIGER(東京&シュトゥットガルト)の独占的なコラボレーション作品のリリースです。
